The auction starts with a real available stay
An accommodation auction is not a vague offer without dates. The property publishes a specific available stay, unit type, number of nights and the starting total it is prepared to accept. Before bidding, you can therefore see what is included: the property, location, amenities, check-in date and check-out date.
This is particularly useful for last-minute stays and gaps in a property calendar. The guest does not have to guess whether the dates are available, and the partner does not expose its entire price list. Only the listed capacity and the stated conditions form the subject of the auction. If they do not suit you, do not bid.
Start the search with the trip, not the discount
Choose the destination and the first day on which you can travel. If the trip is flexible, you can consider nearby dates; if it is fixed, confirm that the auction package fully matches your arrival and departure. The number of guests and the accommodation type must also fit what the property has listed.
The starting price on a card covers the complete displayed stay unless the page clearly says otherwise. Compare the total, the number of nights, amenities, cancellation rules and location. A lower amount is not useful when the dates, capacity or stay conditions do not match your actual plan.
What a binding bid means
Placing a bid means that you are prepared to book the displayed stay for that total if you are the final winner. Your card is not charged when you bid, but a bid should not be used as a consequence-free price enquiry. The system remembers that you understood this commitment so it does not interrupt every later bid with the same confirmation.
Check the dates, property, guest count and amount once more before submitting. If another guest outbids you, you may place a new bid while the auction is open. The interface shows the next permitted amount, so you do not need to guess the increment or calculate the current leading price manually.
- The bid covers the complete displayed stay.
- No card is charged during bidding.
- Only the final winner proceeds to payment.
- Other guests' identities are not shown publicly.
How the auction updates and when it ends
While the auction window is open, the view updates when the server confirms a new bid or a status change. This keeps the result current without repeatedly reloading the entire page. The closing time appears next to the auction status and is calculated from server time rather than a clock that may be set incorrectly on a visitor's device.
A bid received immediately before closing may extend the auction under the rules shown in the interface. The extension reduces the chance of someone winning only because of the final second and gives active participants a short opportunity to respond. A final result exists only after the platform has closed the auction.
What happens after a win
When the auction closes, the system creates a reservation from the highest valid bid in the winner's account. The Reservations section shows the booking code, property, stay, total and payment deadline. Winning does not by itself mean that money has been collected; the status clearly separates a reservation awaiting payment from a paid reservation.
The winner has a limited period in which to start and complete secure Stripe Checkout. A countdown is displayed with the reservation, and an existing Checkout can be resumed while it remains valid. When the business deadline expires, the application removes the payment action until the server has confirmed the final state, preventing payment for released inventory.
When the booking is considered paid
Returning from Stripe is not sufficient proof of a successful charge. Auction Split waits for confirmation from the payment provider and then refreshes the reservation status. Only after the server records confirmed payment does the account show the booking as secure and the property see it as paid in its Partner centre.
If you close Checkout or the payment fails, the reservation may remain held until the displayed deadline and you can try again. Do not place a new bid for the same stay simply because the payment window closed. Open your account first, check the current status and use the available resume or retry payment action.
How to make a sound decision before the first bid
Set the highest total that makes sense to you before competition begins. Include the full stay and your own travel costs. Do not raise a bid only because another participant is currently leading. A good bid is one that still fits your plan and budget when it actually becomes the winning commitment.
Open the property details, read the rules and verify the contact details saved in your account. Enable notifications for bid confirmation, being outbid, winning and payment if you want updates outside the open browser tab. Notifications are reminders; your account on the platform remains the authoritative status view.
A simple checklist for a safe auction
Before bidding, answer five questions: do the dates fit, is the capacity sufficient, do you understand the total, do you accept the stay rules, and can you pay within the winner's deadline? If any answer is unclear, pause and review the details before placing the bid.
After bidding, follow the status under My bids. After a win, move to Reservations, check the countdown and start Stripe payment. Once payment is confirmed, save the booking code. This sequence makes the auction predictable: from available inventory, through transparent competition, to a reservation visible to both guest and property.
FAQ
Do I pay when I place a bid?
No. The bid is binding if you win, but only the final winner starts Stripe payment after the auction closes.
What if another guest outbids me?
You can place another bid while the auction is open. The interface shows the next allowed amount and the current status.
Does returning from Stripe prove payment?
Not by itself. The booking is paid only after the server receives and records the provider's confirmation.
